Most international visitors arrive in Taiwan’s north. Almost all long-haul flights touch down at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, 28km west of Taipei. If you’re coming from elsewhere in East Asia, there’s a good chance you can fly into Taipei Songshan Airport, conveniently close to the capital’s downtown.
Thanks to the north’s fast roads and excellent public transportation, it’s possible to get from either airport to any destination in Taoyuan, Taipei, New Taipei (the donut-shaped metropolis that surrounds the capital) or Yilan in just a few hours. Whether you want to go shopping and people-watching in Ximending, immerse yourself in religious art at Dalongdong Baoan Temple, or just watch the changing of the guard at the National Revolutionary Martyrs Shrine, you won’t have to waste any time.
